Who Is Oribe?

Oribe is a super glamorous hairstylist with over 30 years in the industry. Born in Cuba, Oribe got his big break when he became an Assistant to Garren (another ultra fabulous and well-known stylist) in New York City. He was occasionally given the opportunity to do editorial work when one of the more established stylists was unavailable. He built a name for himself and eventually he began to be requested.

Oribe went on to work with the best fashion photographers including Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Herb Ritts, and Steven Meisel. In fact the collaboration between Steven Meisel, Oribe and make up artist Francois Nars is often credited with creating the supermodel. Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, and Linda Evangelista are just a few models that became famous at that time.

Even during the height of his editiorial and fashion show work for such designers as Karl Lagerfeld and Gianni Versace, Oribe continued to work in a salon. He felt that salon work helped to keep him grounded. His first salon, Oribe at Parachute, was his home base until he was given the opportunity to open a salon on 5th Avenue in Elizabeth Arden in 1991.

The advent of grunge was a fairly uninspired time for the sophisticated and polished Oribe. However, in 1997, Jennifer Lopez hired him to give her a new look for her first album cover. Together they helped to bring glamour back to hairstyling and Oribe’s passion for the art of hairstyling was revived.

In 2008 Oribe teamed up with Daniel Kaner and Tevya Finger to develop a luxury haircare line. Oribe products were formulated in skincare labs and contain only the best ingredients. The entire line is high-performance, gentle, and color and keratin-treatment safe. The scent, which was developed by a French perfume house, is heavenly. My favorite products at this time are Gel Serum, Supershine Moisturizing Cream, and Maximista. Gel Serum can be used like a gel when the hair is dry and like a reparative serum when the hair is wet. Supershine Moisturizing Cream helps to add luster back to dull hair and Maximista is a wonderful plumping tool for volume and fullness. The entire line is fantastic and I highly suggest you give them a try if you want the very best for your hair.
