Argan oil is popping up as an ingredient in a lot of new hair products and you may be wondering what it is and what it can do for you. The nutrient-rich oil is extracted from the seeds of the Argan tree, which are native to Morocco. The trees are relics of the earth’s Tertiary Period (over 1.6 million years ago) and the oil has been used for centuries for medicinal, cosmetic, and culinary purposes.
I was happy to learn that all argan oil is produced by a woman’s co-op that is quite socially responsible. They they share their profits with the women of the Berber tribe and the funds help to provide healthcare and education. In addition, they have established a reforestation program in order to ensure that the they can continue to supply the oil and support the local women.
Argan oil is rich in:
- tocopherols (vitamin E)
- phenols
- carotenes
- squalene
- essential fatty acids
The benefits of using argan oil on your hair are improved texture, softness and managability, damage repair, added strength, and heat protection. It is often recommended for hair that is coarse, curly, frizzy, or damaged. Several products contain argan oil including Moroccan Oil, DermOrganic Argan Oil, Agadir Argan Oil Hair Treatment, and Rusk Deepshine Oil.

I was the lucky winner of the Rusk Oil and I have to say both my hair and I love it! It has made my hair so soft and shiny with just a little use of the product. I use a tiny bit after each wash and sometimes use a dab more for a finish and voila’. I’ve got the look:) Thanks again, Parlor! I love this website.
